24 HOUR VISIT OF THE EMIR OF QATAR TO MADRID

The Qatari sovereign, an important investor in Spain, had a meeting with the King of Spain  

 

Madrid, May 2016.-

H.R.H Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Zani, reigning emir of Qatar, recently visited Madrid on occasion of the sports events taking place in the capital of Spain: the Tennis Open and the semi-final of the football Champions’ League.

An important investor in Spain, the Emir, a great sports enthusiast, is responsible for the significant boost – via Sports Diplomacy – experienced by the Emirate in recent years, which will crystallise in the organisation of 2022 World Football Championship in Qatar.

As has come to the attention of the media, during this brief visit to the capital of Spain, he took the opportunity to meet with HM King Felipe VI during the half-time of the Real Madrid-Manchester City match.

The Emir has many business interests in Spain. He owns 10% of El Corte Inglés, as well as a significant share in the IAG Group (owner of Iberia and British Airways) and has awarded contracts to important Spanish companies.
