DINNER AT THE SPANISH EMBASSY IN THE HOLY SEE

Speech from the correspondent in the Vatican of the Wall Street Journal

Madrid, May 2016.-

In the impressive building of the Spanish Embassy at the Holy See, first stable embassy in history – created during the reign of Catholic King Ferdinand of Aragon - and on occasion of the holding of the International Conference of the Centesimus Annus Foundation, the ambassador for Spain at the Holy See, Eduardo Gutiérrez Sáenz de Buruaga, organised a reception followed by a dinner for the attendees..

The event was closed with a speech given by the correspondent in the Vatican of the Wall Street Journal, Francis X. Rocca who described the successful apostolic visit of the Pope to the United States. According to Rocca, polls have shown the considerable improvement of the perception of the Catholic Church by the North American public.

For the correspondent of the US newspaper, the role of the Holy Father and of the Catholic Church, at this time of generalised disrepute of public and private institutions, becomes particularly relevant as a moral reference for globalised society.
