PENSION SYSTEM REFORM

Madrid, October 2016.-

Antonio Camuñas, Member of the Board of El Español and Chairman of Global Strategies, in collaboration with John Müller, Deputy Director of El Español, chaired the act entitled "La Reforma de las Pensiones" (Pension Reform) held as part of the on-line daily newspaper's anniversary events.

The agenda for the act was split into two parts:

• Main demographic changes in Spain owing to the economic situation (the impact of greater life expectancy and low birth rate; Horizonte 2020: Roadmap for ageing; Can the current pension system be sustained? Can we expect a pension reform?)

• Tensions and trends in the demographic structure (Demographic structure of a country: how to have a population structure that suffices to sustain the cost of its older generations; Given the economic recession: is it possible to maintain a system with social, health guarantees, etc.?; Demographic trends and long-term predictions)

• How does the economic support of the retired population affect the younger generation and their families on account of the unemployment rate

• Does system sustainability depend on increasing the working age in Spain?

• Keys to developing supplementary social security

The speakers at the act were as follows:

José Antonio Herce, Partner in Analistas Financieros Internacionales (AFI)
